Morgan Poncelet - Freemont, CA

Dr. Sherman Zaremski - Kansas City, MO

************************************

Morgan Poncelet Morgan Poncelet has been a Global Response letter-writer for about 3 years. She originally learned about Global Response while surfing the internet, and has been active ever since.

Morgan volunteered for Global Response while studying at the University of Colorado. She graduated in May 2005 and moved to California, where she is now working for an environmental non-profit as a writer.

For Morgan, an especially rewarding aspect of letter-writing for Global Response is the opportunity to make direct contact with the presidents of other countries and corporate CEO's - "to raise awareness in those people who can actually make change happen."

She is particularly interested in Global Response's work to preserve forests around the world, and to protect the cultures and livelihood of indigenous people.

Included in Morgan's undergraduate work are a major in International Affairs and a Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies. Her dream is to get a master's degree in Environmental Policy and become an environmental policy analyst.
Her other activities include participating in triathlons (she swims, runs, and bikes a lot) and gardening. She finds the Bay area ideal for gardening. Morgan is planning a trip to Bolivia and Peru this summer, where she may have an opportunity to visit places she helped save through her letter-writing.

Dr. Sherman Zaremski , who practices internal medicine in Kansas City, has been a Global Response member for about five years. He has written numerous letters in support of our campaigns, has provided significant financial support, and is spreading the word about Global Response among his patients and acquaintances. GR Board member Arden Buck had an opportunity to meet him in person last year, to their mutual enjoyment.

His greatest concern, and the principal reason for his involvement in Global Response, is to save the Earth’s diversity of life. “Once a species becomes extinct, it's gone forever and can never be replaced,” he reminds us.

Dr. Zaremski treasures his correspondence with the President of Costa Rica, which he initiated with a letter for a Global Response campaign. He urged a halt to oil development along the country’s Caribbean coast. In reply, he received a courteous letter from the President himself, written in both English and Spanish. (This campaign was a Global Response victory.) The doctor and his wife later visited Costa Rica and appreciated first-hand the president’s commitment to environmental protection.

In addition to writing letters, Dr. Zaremski has a number of fascinating avocations: cave explorer, photographer, railroad buff, stamp and coin collector, glassblower, woodworker and silversmith. He also has piloted his own airplane, participated in Native American pipe circle ceremonies, and delved deeply into Zoroastrianism, an ancient monotheistic religion. His wife, Barbara, has degrees in divinity and in psychology. She is a master swimmer who has set national and world records. They have two sons.
