Youth *
ECA - Global Response publishes
Eco-Club Actions (ECA) for youth aged 13 to 18.
YEA - Young Environmentalist Actions
(YEA) for children aged 8-12.
These Action Bulletins teach young people about global environmental issues
and the local communities that are struggling to stop the destruction
of valuable forests, rivers, wetlands, and habitats. Each Action Bulletin
invites young people to write letters to help a specific community defend
its natural resources and its right to a safe, healthy environment.
Teachers
Select the 'Teachers Packet' and
we'll send you the Global Response Educator's Resource Kit.
The kit includes an 8 page Teacher's Guide, our 5 minute DVD and the latest
ECA and/or YEA Bulletin. The Teacher's Guide gives specific ideas for
integrating the ECA or YEA into content areas (social studies, science
and language arts); activities you can adapt to your teaching objectives;
a sample lesson to use with the ECA or YEA; and a world map featuring
successful Global Response campaigns.
You will also recieve YEA and/or ECA Action
Bulletins for each new campaign (3-4 per year). In each bulletin, young
people learn about a specific, current threat - and also what they can
do to help. Each bulletin gives scientific information about the environmental
issue (climate change, deforestation, pollution, wetlands, endangered
species, tropical rainforests, etc.). It also gives details about the
local people affected by the environmental crisis, and how they are working
to protect their natural resources.
At the request of these communities, Global
Response invites young people - your students - to write letters asking
key officials to make environmentally sound decisions. The Action Bulletin
also offers follow-up reports on past letter writing campaigns, showing
members how their letters have helped solve many environmental problems
around the world.
